About the Area
La Jolla Alta is located on the south slope of Mount Soledad. Residents who reside in La Jolla Alta get to soak in the sunshine, panoramic views from the Ocean, Bay, San Diego City skyline and La Jolla coastline, while being tucked away in the hillsides and steep canyons. This offers the residents great privacy, surrounding greenery and chirping birds. The La Jolla Alta neighborhood is made up of a big chunk of planned unit developments, offering the options of a gated community, townhomes, single family detached homes, as well as custom built single family detached homes. Most of the homes in La Jolla Alta were built in the late 70s and 80’s, so they are “newer homes” than many other homes in La Jolla. The townhomes of El Dorado and Ventana offer affordable options for La Jolla residents and the gated communities Windemere, Ridgegate, and Crystal Bay offers the comfort and safety of a gated community. These planned communities are a popular transition for families and empty nesters who have needed to downsize from their Country Club or Muirlands homes. These planned development homes range from about $1.2-$3 million and this is the one of the only areas in La Jolla that offers gated communities.
The location of La Jolla Alta is very close to neighboring, Pacific Beach, making the neighborhood super convenient to restaurants, Tourmaline Beach, the grocery store, and nightlife. The neighboring area of Pacific Beach is “North Pacific Beach” which offers a quieter area with some larger homes and a sophisticated feel. The kids growing up in this neighborhood go to Bird Rock Elementary, Muirlands Middle School, and La Jolla High School. The main mode of transportation would be by car. The La Jolla Alta neighborhood offers easy access to the 5 Freeway, as it borders Pacific Beach, and is about a 10 minute drive to the La Jolla Coast and downtown Village of La Jolla.
