Welcome to La Mesa

History

Just 12 miles east of downtown San Diego, La Mesa is known as the as “the jewel of the foothills.” La Mesa rests on the apex of a number of plateaus that rise steadily from the coast. In Spanish, La Mesa means “the table” or alternatively “the plateau.”

Great place to call home

With 14 parks and many recreation facilities such as a golf course, public pool and Lake Murray recreational center, La Mesa is a great place to call home. Developed as one of San Diego’s true villages, the community is watchful of growth issues that could undermine the small-town setting and quality of life.

Fun, fun, fun

The Village of La Mesa has many fun events throughout the year. There is a Farmer’s Market in the Village every Friday afternoon. June brings the annual Flag Day Parade and the summer has its annual event “Back to the 50s Car Show” every Thursday evening during the months of June –August where classic car enthusiasts come to display their vehicles. At the beginning of each October, La Mesa holds their biggest event of the year, Oktoberfest, over three nights. Other annual events include Christmas in the Village and Antique Street.
